Overview
Neck pain often comes from long hours at a desk or phone, poor sleep position, stress or a sudden movement such as whiplash. It can also cause headaches that start at the base of the skull.
Most neck pain settles with the right mix of movement, exercise and small changes to your daily routine.
Symptoms
Stiffness and pain when turning or tilting your head
Headaches that start at the back of the head
Tight shoulders and upper back
Pins and needles in the arm or hand
How we treat it
We check your neck and upper back movement, posture and nerve function. If you have symptoms in your arm, we test strength and sensation to rule out nerve irritation.
Treatment may include gentle joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, posture and desk set-up advice, and exercises to strengthen the deep neck and shoulder muscles.
Typical recovery time
Usually 2 to 6 weeks; whiplash can take up to 3 months
