Overview
Lower back pain is very common and, in most cases, it is not caused by serious damage. It often starts after lifting, a long day sitting or a change in activity, but it can also appear without an obvious reason.
Staying gently active is one of the best things you can do. We help you understand your pain, keep moving safely and build strength so it is less likely to come back.
Symptoms
Aching or sharp pain across the lower back
Pain that spreads into the buttock or down the leg (sciatica)
Stiffness in the morning or after sitting
Pain when bending, lifting or turning in bed
How we treat it
We ask about your work, sleep and activity, and screen for signs that need a doctor’s review. Then we test how you move and which positions ease or increase the pain.
Your plan may include gentle mobilisation, specific exercises, advice on pacing activity and a gradual return to lifting or sport. We give you exercises you can do at home in 10 minutes a day.
Typical recovery time
Most people improve within 2 to 6 weeks; long-term pain needs a longer plan
