Overview

Rehabilitation after surgery helps you regain movement, strength and confidence, and get back to daily life, work or sport safely. We work with patients after joint replacements, ligament repairs and fractures.

We follow your surgeon’s guidelines and can send them progress reports if you want us to.

Symptoms

  • Stiffness and reduced movement after the operation

  • Weakness in the muscles around the joint

  • Swelling that increases with activity

  • Worry about putting weight on the leg or using the arm

How we treat it

Bring your discharge letter or surgical notes to the first session. We check your wound, swelling, movement and walking, and agree clear goals with you.

Your plan progresses in stages, from early movement and walking aids to full strength and balance training. We can see you in the clinic or teach a family member how to help at home.

Typical recovery time

Depends on the operation; usually 3 to 12 months
